Holly’s story, The North Pasture, solves the mystery of a body buried in an Eastern Colorado rancher’s pasture thirty years previously. Read the opening below.

The North Pasture
Wylene and I were gathering strays in the north pasture when three sheriffs’ departments SUVs pulled off the highway at our gate. The day was breezy but warm. Our young geldings had started to sweat, and they could use a breather. So I trotted over to greet Sheriff Ed Hensley as he stepped out of the first SUV. We were friends and had a running weekly card game with our spouses.
“Good morning, Sheriff.”
“Shayna.” The sheriff tipped his hat.
“What brings you out this morning?” I asked.
Ed removed his hat, wiped his brow, and put it back on. He shook his head and said, “You’re not going to believe this, but we got a tip that there’s a body buried here in your pasture. The caller said it had been there almost thirty years.”

About Holly
A native Texan, Holly Harris has lived in Colorado for most of her life. She has hiked and ridden horses throughout the mountains and plains of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Nebraska. Holly writes fiction from the heart of the American West, ranging from modern suspense to historical projects set in the early 20th century.
A lifelong horsewoman, Holly has competed in ranch horse events and cutting horse shows. That deep connection to the arena and the Western lifestyle brings authenticity to her prose. She raised her children in the foothills of the Front Range, and as a family, they spent summers hiking, rafting, and camping across the Mountain West.
When she isn’t stringing words together, Holly can be found hiking Colorado trails with her Australian Shepherd, Wyatt, or lending a hand at a friend’s spring branding. Through her writing, she hopes her readers come to know and appreciate the grit and beauty of the land she loves.
